TENGEN TETRIS

Voted, with little argument, the better of the two tetrii, Tengen Tetris is a rare find, but well worth it.

The best part of the game are the multiple modes. In Nintendo Tetris (NT), there are two modes, A and B. In Tengen Tetris (TT), however, there are 5. Among theses are: 1 player, 2 players, Cooperative, Vs. Computer, and With Computer. Obviously TT kills NT in that arena, because it is an undesputed fact that 5 is more than 2. And the two from NT aren't even that great. Just normal and counting down instead of up. But this isn't a review of NT, so on to the tengen stuff.
1 Player: One player is pretty standard. One confusing thing (if you are used to NT) is that the levels change every 30 lines, intead of every ten (my first game I got 180 lines - quite a difference from my all time high of 123 in NT). This mode is quite comprable to NT's mode a, though.
2 Players: The shining moment of Tengens career was when they gave tetris a 2 player option. Although the two players don't really interact, it makes for some great fun and competition. Especially when you are rockin out the the minibosses.
Cooperative: The most unique and innovative part of TT. Get this: One player controls one piece, while the other controlls another. Whoa... It trips me out, and I am not sure whether I like it or not. It is very... weird...
Vs. Computer: This is basically 2 player with the computer. Not that innovative, but it is good when you have no friends.
With Computer: This is just as weird as cooperative. In fact, it is cooperative. The computer isn't bad, actually, unless you plan on getting any tetrii. Merv (the computer) is pretty smart and will fill in any blank spaces if it will get you some lines. Very amusing to play.

The music ownz NT. There are 5 choices in TT, as opposed to the 3 in NT, and the quality is better. I can really rock out to TT music more than NT. One reason is that TT music is longer. One loop of most music is about 2 minutes long, while the NT loops are about 30 seconds long, max. It really is a shame that they didn't make it far. The graphics are different than NT, but not worse. Not better, but not worse. They are a bit more bland, but have a cool sheen to them that NT does not. The graphics rating depends more on taste than on quality. There really isn't much here for graphics, except your opinion. Control is the only point where TT is a bit worse than NT. You can't really notice at first, but the controls aren't as quick and responsive in TT as they are in NT. It didn't bother me too much, but it got on my nerves a bit and had to take a break.
