Hey kiddies, break out your Mega Man 1 cartridge (sorry all you emulator patrons can't do this amazing trick!). You need an original NES to do this.

Put the cartridge in all the way and push it down until it locks in. Push it down so it unlocks, but hold it in the down position so the game turns on normally. Turn the power on and slowly release the pressure until you see the screen screw up. Trying this at different speeds and such can give you different results. One time Mega Man and a strange monkey robot (maybe a boss that didn't make it into the roster?) appeared and I grabbed the controller and I could fight it! Another time I got into a distorted ElecMan stage, but with more enemies! The trick is to keep trying until you get different results. Most of the time the screen will screw up, you'll get the blue screen of death, or the game system will keep resetting itself (not unusual occurances when dealing with a NES), but with time and patience, you may discover some pretty strange stuff.

So far, I haven't tried this with many games. Mega Man was the only one I could actually get interesting effects. I don't recommend trying this with games with battery-backup such as Final Fantasy or Zelda seeing as how you may cause a nuclear meltdown, or worse, you could lose your save file. Who knows, mabye you'll find new levels, weapons, mabye secret government files, or nude photos of Fred Savage, or more miscellaneous poop like that.

I actually tried to submit this code to Nintendo Power, but they rejected it saying it was unsafe. Conspiracy? That much is most certainly the opposite of not surely untrue and vice a versa. I'd lock my doors and hug my teddy bear extra close tonight if I were you...

To be continued...
