"I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the winged scourge that pecks at your nightmares! I am Darkwing Duck!" A good portion of us avid NES Players or TV watchers will remember that time-honored phrase coined by DW himself. Teamed up with launchpad, Darkwing duck will save the town from the organization known as F.O.W.L. (bird humor, ha). Whether it be Quacker Jack, Wolfduck, or even the evil Liquidator, Darkwing Duck can stop them and once again return peace to his fine city.
Now that I have gotten that superhero-like introduction out of the way, I can say what a great game this is. Let me start off by saying that one of the main reasons I love the nes is because of the 2D, sidescrolling, just-run-around-and-have-fun, games where you, well, just run around and have fun. There are no huge complex 3D graphics, there are no deep plotlines, just eliminate the bad-guys and save the city. And it can all be done in 30 minutes or less. One example of this type of game is Darkwing Duck. Why is it Darkwing Ducks job to fix the city's problems? I don't know. That is what makes this game simple and fun.

For those of you who don't really know anything about Darkwing Duck, he was a pretty successful cartoon character before NES went out of style and the producers decided to make a game out of it. Luckily, they made the game fun and had it follow the basic plotline of the show. That way DW fans and NES fans could like the game. I never really played the game untill about 4 or 5 months ago, but I was a big fan of the show, I even have some episodes on tape. I guess my hopes for a good show/movie to game transition had been crushed by ljn. There was a pretty generic plot for the game, but the TV show had many well-written plots. I guess they just wanted to keep the game simple.

The control on Darkwing Duck is exceptional. The jumping and firing is very responsive, and I have only very rarely died to a unresponsive jump or fire or something. There is a good range of moves and actions your character can do. He has a very nice block that I use a lot. His gun can fire a regular weapon (which has the traditional infinite ammo) or special add-ons you pick up during play that have limited ammo, but they are more powerful. The combonation of standard and special weapons is really nice.
There are 6 levels you have to beat, and the game took me about 45 minutes. I did not get bored, though. I have played and beaten that game on numerous accounts and I still love it.
